Steve & Eydie were singing Gershwin, Porter, and Tin Pan Alley in the 1950's while the rest of the world was listening to artists like Elvis, Johnny Ray. Steve & Eydie were keeping the popular American songbook alive along with Tony Bennett, Keely Smith, Carmen McRae and a few others. Though they were not as jazz orientated as others, on these two sets (originally issued on DOT LPs) they are at their best. They swing through standards and lesser known gems. Gorme sounds a little Sarah Vaughan / Keely Smith influenced, And Lawrence is as smooth sounding as ever. Recommended highly, especially to those who might think Steve & Eydie are not capable of singing jazz, here's proof that they are !!!!
