Texan Clarence Albert Poindexter, or Al Dexter to use his stage name, with a combination of dogged determination, hard work, and skilful song writing, succeeded in taking the USA by storm in the early forties with his seminal honky tonk song "Pistol Packing Mama". This one song, leaving aside all the other first class ditties he penned and recorded, was to guarantee Al Dexter a place in the Country Music history books, however, his was not a story of overnight success.
