Behind those stark facts lies the story of an exceptional man who entertained the world for most of a happily long life, indeed right up to his death. Borge was the youngest of five sons born to musicians Bernhard and Frederikke Rosenbaum. His father was First Violin with Copenhagen's Royal Theatre Symphony Orchestra but Borge choose his mother's instrument, the piano, tinkling the keys from the age of three. He was recognised as a child prodigy and consequently, at the age of nine, was awarded a full scholarship to the Royal Danish Music Conservatory. At 13, he had his professional debut.
