• DALE HAWKINS, from Shreveport, Louisiana, emerged in 1957 with the bluesy, swampy ‘Susie-Q’, one of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll”.
• It can be found on an earlier Jasmine release, “Susie-Q (The Singles, As & Bs 1956-60)” (JASCD599), which includes Hawkins’ early hits and signature songs.
• ‘Forbidden Love’ picks up his story in January 1961 and features all his recorded output during 1961 and 62.
• These include a largely forgotten live LP, “Let’s All Twist At The Miami Beach Peppermint Lounge”, plus tracks which were not issued the first time around.
• Whilst not commercially successful at the time, these are virtually all sought-after collectors’ rarities.
• This is the first time that this particular body of work has been thus assembled, and many of these sides are hellishly difficult to find elsewhere on CD.
