George CHAKIRIS – The West Side Story Guy

An exquisite dancer, actor and singer, GEORGE CHAKIRIS is indelibly linked to 'West Side Story', having won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe as 'Best Supporting Actor' for his portrayal of Bernardo Nunez, leader of the Sharks, in the multi-Oscar-winning 1961 movie.

While much of his recording activity was a spinoff of his mainstream dancing/acting career, he enjoyed sporadic singing success, both in the UK and the US.

Between 1958-60, while based in London, he cut an LP and registered one hit 45, 'Heart Of A Teenage Girl'.

Following the success of the 'West Side Story' movie he cut a couple of US hit albums, 'West Side Story's Dynamic George Chakiris' and 'Memories Are Made Of These'.

This unique compilation presents the standout tracks from his first three LPs, plus a trio of singles, the first time this body of work has been thus assembled.
