• JOHNNY OTIS - aka “The Godfather Of R&B” - was one of those men to whom the phrase “A Living Legend” was applied throughout his career.
• As a singer, musician, composer, bandleader, record producer and talent scout he went on to become a seminal influence on both R&B and Rock & Roll.
• This compilation is the second in a two CD mini-series which anthologises virtually everything that he recorded between 1952-57 for Don Robey’s famed Peacock and Duke labels, in Houston, Texas.
• In addition to Otis’ own releases it features sides on which he and his band backed artists like Lovey Lewis, Johnny Ace (including ‘Pledging My Love’), The Sultans, Junior Ryder, Joe “Mr Google Eyes” August, Marie Adams and Big Mama Thornton, and which Otis, in turn, produced.
• This is the companion volume to “Johnny Otis, The Duke/Peacock Sessions, Part 1, 1952-54” (JASMCD3316).
