Snooky Pryor – Judgment Day

• When SNOOKY PRYOR died in October 2006, at the age of eighty-five, he was the last of the elite harmonica players who’d distinguished 1940s and 50s Chicago Blues.
• Although he comprehensively outlived his peers, throughout his career Pryor had been overshadowed by men like Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Walter ‘Shakey’ Horton and Junior Wells.
• Yet he was a powerful live performer and a genuine innovator, certainly one of the very first harp players to amplify his instrument, electrically.
• Indeed, Snooky always insisted that he was the first, despite the counterclaims of rivals.
• This compilation features everything he recorded between 1948 and 1962, that has survived.
• When he was rediscovered in the early 70s, Pryor went on to enjoy particular popularity in the UK and Europe, and continued to gig and record into the 21st Century.
