Jimmy DEUCHAR – Opus De Funk

The themes in this collection were all specially written and scored by Jimmy for a group of his long-time associates, all of whom had at one time or another been his colleagues in the Ronnie Scott and Tony Crombie line-ups. Hear Jimmy with both Derek Humble and Ken Wray on two earlier dates on JASMINE JASCD 616 "Jimmy Deuchar Showcase". "E" is in an easy-riding groove, moving along at a slowish tempo. The blueprint needs just the simplest explanation: theme statement; solos by Deuchar (two choruses), Wray, Humble and Tracey, with a certain amount of background scoring and an 8-bar ensemble interlude before Derek's contribution; a trading of "8s" by the horns, then "4s" with Crombie, and a final variation on the theme (more or less an inversion, with the notes ascending where they descended before).
